UNC Charlotte University Recreation is an Authorized Provider of American Red Cross health and safety courses. We offer several courses, including: lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid/CPR/AED, as well as instructor level courses. All courses are led by experienced instructors who are certified to teach by the American Red Cross. We offer courses in a blended learning format (computer-based learning and hands-on training). Please note: these courses are not for academic credit.
Lifeguard Instructor Course
This course will train lifeguarding instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Blended Learning, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. (Note: To teach Waterfront Skills, Lifeguarding instructors must possess a basic-level Waterfront Skills certificate)
Pre-Reqs: At least 17 years old; possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or an equivalent certificate from another organization, complete the Online Session for the Lifeguarding Instructor course; ability to swim 300 yds. (front crawl or breaststroke), tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a brick test
Dates: October 11 - 13
With the American Red Cross lifeguard training, you will be provided with the skills and knowledge to prepare for in-water and out-of-water rescues. You will learn how to help prevent drowning and why quick recognition and action are important.
Pre-Reqs: At least 15 years old, ability to swim 300 yds. (front crawl or breaststroke), tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a brick test

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer Instructor Course
This course will train instructor candidates to teach CPR for the Professional Rescuer courses. In order to participate in this course, you must possess a current CPR for Professional Rescuer (or higher level) certification or equivalent and be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course. This is a blendedlearning course consisting of online content, a precourse skills session and classroom segments. Online material must be completed prior to attending the classroom activities.

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer Course
More advanced training where individuals are trained to respond as professional rescuers to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants. Certification is valid through the American Red Cross for 2 years.
