Safety Courses

UNC Charlotte University Recreation is an Authorized Provider of American Red Cross health and safety courses. We offer several courses, including: lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid/CPR/AED, as well as instructor level courses. All courses are led by experienced instructors who are certified to teach by the American Red Cross. We offer courses in a blended learning format (computer-based learning and hands-on training).

  • Lifeguard Non-Credit Course

With the American Red Cross lifeguard training, you will be provided with the skills and knowledge to prepare for in-water and out-of-water rescues. You will learn how to help prevent drowning and why quick recognition and action are important.

Pre-Reqs: At least 15 year old, ability to swim 300 yds. (front crawl or breaststroke), tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a brick test

Dates: January 4 - 6, March 22 - 24, April 5 - 7, April 26 - 28

Updates current skills for additional 2 year.

Dates: March 15 - 17, April 12 - 14

  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer Non-Credit Course

More advanced training where individuals are trained to respond as professional rescuers to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants. Certification is valid through the American Red Cross for 2 years.
